EDIB Policy

The European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) is fully committed to values and principles that support diversity, equity, and inclusion within the governance and operation of its services. As a resource repository and central node between many different types of organisations, the EDCH expects all individuals and organisations interacting on the platform to follow our dedication to create and maintain a safe and inclusive research culture and a working environment that enables everyone to contribute to and benefit from advancements in arts and sciences.

To promote EDIB among its stakeholders, the EDCH endorses the Diamond Open Access Standard (DOAS), which provides publishers, service providers and tools and technology providers with principles and good practices on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB), Gender, and Multilingualism. The EDCH further provides guidelines and toolkits on how practical steps can be taken to take operations towards this direction. DIAMAS has also produced a guide for supporting Diamond OA publishers in developing their own EDIB strategies.

The EDCH promotes a plurality of linguistic, gender, cultural, academic, geographical, organisational, economic backgrounds and disabilities within its governance and management bodies and among its contributors. The EDCH works to ensure that its services do not discriminate when it comes to thematic scope of research, language, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, geographic location, or political philosophy.

As a service provider in the Diamond OA landscape, the EDCH wants to establish and formalise its own commitment to upholding values that align with the recommendations and guidelines provided in the resources found on the service. In this first iteration of the EDCH Policy on EDIB, the EDCH commits to the fundamental principles formulated within DOAS, and to using community consultation to iterate and expand upon this policy in the future.

The EDCH also commits to establishing appropriate policies, practices, and monitoring for EDIB, accessibility and multilingualism principles and standards in its operations. Additionally, the EDCH will develop a more comprehensive policy by the end of the year, through collaboration with the community, and will actively communicate about its progress in this domain.
